TheMoment..I..wake..UP

Mosaic addiction is taking over the world...especially DownUnder. Sandy Robertson of OzMosaics has an incurable mosaic addiction and likes to spread it throughout the land. This Blog comes with a warning "don't just stand there, smash something....it's good for you!"

Birthdays, tables, mosaic madness

DH celebrated a birthday today and we all ate pizza on the deck with cooling breeze prevailing. The cat bit me again today because I didn't feed it fast enough, then threw itself on the old cane settee and messed up my sequined orange and pink pillows with black cat hair, then chewed on the animal print sheets.....grrr...

The tabletop wouldn't squeeze in the car, I chiselled some off the edges and shoved....won't tell anymore but now I am doing the sides again. It was fun.

It's very humid and hot DownUnder and I thought it would be storming late this afternoon. I am dreaming of studio renovations tonight.....to do or not to do...this is the question....will be fun chatting with the builder tomorrow.

Glued down lots of gold and blue tiles on a commission mosaic today and have a stiff neck.
Watched the tennis last night and fell asleep with a glass of wine in my hand, and didn't spill a drop....takes practise to do that!

Tomorrow is a very busy day and what's new?
cheers

Table on the make

Somehow Saturday seemed to slip by without an entry. Sunday downunder brings humid, hot weather, Alison's coconut cake and my determination to finish a mosaic cement table base for a customer. Thank goodness I did not put the umbrella hole in the middle as now it is not to be!

I have my favourite mosaic duds on, 3/4 denim shorts covered in grout, mastic and one leg has directions to the Freeway...I keep a felt pen in my pocket and the other day drew directions for student on my jeans! Now I am getting them to sign my jeans. When classes start again in March I think the uniform will be white t-shirts (to write on and get grotty) and old jeans to sign and wipe hands, saves using aprons.

I am torn between projects but have to finish the table. It's quite exciting, it's large and light...my new ozboard product is working! Can't wait to see what mosaic design ends up on my table. It's hard to part with the table....so much love and prepartation goes into these tabletop bases. As I create them for the customer, I put my mosaic energy in the passing swipes of thinset, layer by layer...willing a beautiful work of art to take it's home on the surface...

I had better get out there and start mixing....gulping down vegemite sandwiches and iced vo-vovs as I go..Visit my website soon for pictures of this tabletop...
Cheers

I should be in the shower! Wash that grout right out of my hair!

I am always playing with time. I steal little bits of it and add to other bits to make up sneaky time slots that I had not planned for. For example, here I am, tingling with excitement at creating a Blog when I should be in the shower and heading down to the Beenleigh Library to collect my mosaic exhibition!
Thank goodness I don't have webcam! Hands covered in white thinset (that's cement based adhesive, not a diet plan!) and mosaic dandruff (thinset sprinked in hair!).

Welcome to my world of mosaic addiction. If I had a hammer, I'd hammer in the morning, I'd hammer in the evening, all over this town....yes, that's what the feeling is like.

Sometimes, you wish you could turn off the addiction. Everything you see, you mentally turn into a mosaic form. Everything you hear, becomes a visual....Everything you touch, you have broken down in your mind and reassembled. Nothing is safe from a mosaic addict....so next time you are in a coffee shop, and a rubber-gloved handed suddenly whisks the half-full cup of chino away, take care....you are near a mosaic addict. You wonder why the cup was stolen? Did it have a floral motif?....a cup handle that could become an elephant's tusk? or did the bottom of the cup say "made in china"...that's a personal favourite...

Pique-assiette is a form of mosaic art that is often made from china (not made in China! LOL (=lots of laughs) and that "made in china" label is a must for me! David has had cups ripped out of his hands, half full, when I absolutely had to have the colour blue! One bit of tesserae ended up in my Sydney Opera House mosaic...and oh, if you dare to drink wine out of blue bottles in my presence, do it at your own risk....it is the water of my art!

7.42 am.....how much time do I need to wash that grout out of my hair....I have so much to tell you...more later
Cheers
